About this experience
Tired of the hustle and bustle of Roman streets, the magnificence of antiquity, the abundance of numbers and dates? Then I invite you to get some fresh air - let's take a car ride along the picturesque road along Lake Albano, the beauty of which has been praised not only by travelers but also by artists.
Program
Along the new Appian Way, we will head to the town of Castel Gandolfo, where the summer residence of the Pope is located, built in the 17th century by Carlo Maderno for Pope Urban VIII. We will take a stroll through the cozy town, where the kingdom of Albalonga was located and where the Roman land originated. This is one of the most beautiful places in Italy.
Further on, our path will pass through serpentine roads with breathtaking views of the sacred groves of Albalonga and the mirror-like surface of the lake, which is called "Diana's Mirror." I believe that the beautiful views of Lake Albano, surrounded by the greenery of forests and sparkling in the sunlight like aquamarine, will not leave anyone indifferent.
As we ascend, the road will pass through a forested area with scents of freshness and flowers until we reach the top of the hill with a stunning view of Lake Nemi, full of mysteries and secrets. I will tell you why Caligula chose this lake for his pleasures and what lay at the muddy bottom for almost two thousand years.
In the town of Nemi, which sprawls on the high banks of the lake, there is a intoxicating smell of strawberries year-round; the hospitable owners of small shops will treat you to various salamis, sausages, prosciutto, and cheeses. You can taste homemade wine, various seasonings with underground truffles. The variety of different sweet liqueurs and strawberry infusions in souvenir bottles will not only tempt you to try them yourself but also to give a piece of this celebration to your friends.
On the opposite shore of the lake - the town of Genzano, which for 200 years, in June, during the Infiorata festival, turns into a colorful carpet. Groups of florists create panels and paintings on religious and historical themes from seeds, grasses, and flower petals.
To continue our acquaintance with the Roman Castles, we will drive through the town of Ariccia, the main architectural attraction of which is the medieval castle of Chigi.
This town is also famous for its traditional Italian cuisine. There are many trattorias on the central square where you can try the most delicious local dishes and enjoy a glass of cheerful Romanello wine.
This tour will amaze you with the authenticity and tranquility of small towns, which are rightly called the "Pearls of the Roman Castles," the beauty of the lakes, the magnificent landscapes, the fresh strawberries, the juicy porchetta with fresh homemade bread, and the hospitality of the locals.
I promise that this walk will leave an indelible impression on your hearts!
