About this experience
The most interesting stories about Florence, the main attractions, and the city's beauty are gathered in my tour, during which you will gain an understanding of Florence's contribution and its residents to the development of Italy's political life and world artistic heritage. You will visit the magnificent squares of the city, see the ''golden bridge'' and Florentine cathedrals, and if you wish – even visit the best galleries. And you will understand that all of Florence is one big open-air museum, full of beauty and unique aesthetics.
What to Expect
Basic route. City walk
The religious center of Florence is the best place to start exploring the city. Opposite the main cathedral, crowned with Brunelleschi's dome, you will see the ancient Baptistery with three doors, one of which is the Gates of Paradise by Ghiberti. Moving from there to the political center of the city, to Piazza della Signoria, we will talk about the struggle for power of the Medici family and remember the tragic death of the monk Savonarola. And on the Piazza del Mercato Nuovo, you will make a wish by rubbing the nose of the bronze boar (it will come true – tested on myself!). You will see the ''golden bridge'' Ponte Vecchio – the only one that survived World War II, and peek into jewelers' shops with centuries-old history.
Extended route. Florence's galleries
For those who not only want to immerse themselves in the spirit of Florence but also touch the great art of its museums, I suggest visiting during the walk the Academy of Fine Arts gallery and the Uffizi gallery. In the Academy gallery, you will skip the line to quickly see the legendary original ''David'' by Michelangelo and numerous priceless paintings by Florentine masters. And in the Uffizi gallery, founded by the will of the Grand Duke Cosimo I de Medici, you will trace the development of Italian painting of the Renaissance era: you will see works by Giotto, Caravaggio, and the same Michelangelo, but this time – the only painting by the sculptor in Florence ''Tondo Doni''. Here you will also find ''Adoration of the Magi'' by Da Vinci, ''The Birth of Venus'' by Botticelli, and ''Madonna with the Goldfinch'' by Raphael, and you will be able to form your own idea of the value and beauty of these great paintings.
