About this experience
This journey will immerse you in the history of the ancient kingdom of Colchis, where ancient Greek Argonauts sailed to. You will discover how the features of the Imereti culture have been forming for 5000 years, get acquainted with the way of life of the local residents, admire the inspiring peaks of the Caucasus, and feel the special atmosphere of ancient temples.
What to Expect:
Visit to the Tskaltubo Cave. Explore huge underground labyrinths with rooms, and near the village of Terjola, I will show you the Neanderthal cave complex.
Bagrationi Residence. At the Gelati Monastery, where representatives of the western branch of the thousand-year-old royal dynasty lived, you will learn the amazing history of this ancient lineage.
Ancient Monastery of Motsameta. Located deep in the canyon of a mountain river, it attracts with its mysteries, legends, and special charm.
Walk through the Liakhvi Forest. It is a remnant of an ancient oak forest that once covered all of Imereti, and by seeing it, you can imagine how rich the region's nature is.
Ancient Skanda Fortress. Step into an ancient antique city once visited by Romans and Etruscans.
Picturesque Terjola Pass, from where you can see all of Imereti and Racha – here you can capture stunning panoramic views.
Nature's Wonder – Katskhi Pillar. Be amazed by the limestone monolith with church structures on the top.
City of Chiatura. In the center of manganese production, instead of buses, there are cable cars, turning this mining town into a truly unique place that will leave you with extraordinary impressions.
Imereti Delicacies. In a local charming cafe, you will taste the best dishes of the local cuisine – meat with nuts, various types of pkhali, pelamushi, chicken on ketsi, cheese-filled churchkhelas, and much more.
