About this experience
A district is not just a city component, but a whole world with a bustling life, its own rules, infrastructure, and stories. We will introduce you to the favorite corner of the Amsterdammers. You will see the house where the most famous criminal of the country was born, peek into the 'brown bar' featured in a police series, and learn about other skeletons in the closet of this unique neighborhood.
What to Expect
An island of authenticity in the center of Amsterdam
Trees in tubs, picturesque canals, neat buildings housing bars and non-touristy cafes, lots of greenery and sculptures - Jordaan can be called the most charming district in Amsterdam. Here you will observe the everyday life of Amsterdammers, something you won't find in the Old Center and on the Grand Canals. The old architecture of the district will tell you how it used to live: you will see former warehouses of breweries, fish processing plants, and leather factories. And we will show you the most interesting specimens of Jordaan - the 'brown bar', the house of the criminal and lover of Freddy Heineken - and take you to cozy places with an atmosphere of antiquity.
What the district is living with
To help you understand why alongside ordinary buildings industrial ones stand in Jordaan, we will share its past: you will learn when it appeared, why it was called the 'warehouse of peace', and who populates it now. By the way, it is here where a canal peacefully flows, which has its own Facebook page! During the walk, you will collect facts to finally reveal the country's most notorious crime. Intrigued? Then we look forward to meeting you :)
