Join me on a stroll through the most authentic district in all of Amsterdam. Once home to the poor and working class, this area has transformed into a prestigious neighborhood with unique architecture and an unparalleled atmosphere. If you prefer to avoid crowds of tourists, red light districts, and coffee shops, then this route is definitely for you!
What to Expect
Immerse yourself in the quiet, beautiful, peaceful Amsterdam. During the walk, I will reveal the secrets of the crooked buildings and numerous houses on water. You will hear the history of the city, from medieval times to our modern era. If you are ready to travel back in time for a few centuries to the 17th century, also known as the Golden Age of the Netherlands, get ready for an captivating journey!
- We will pass through the Lords Square and the Brewers' Quarter, where in one of the ancient establishments you can try an apple pie that even former U.S. President Bill Clinton enjoyed.
- We will admire the Anne Frank House, explore the tallest Protestant church in the entire kingdom and the narrowest house in the world. We will enter one of the oldest city courtyards, discuss Amsterdam's architecture, and of course, the houses on water, which are countless in this area. If you wish, we can visit the interior of one of them.
- We will visit the Cheese Museum, where you can taste and purchase traditional Dutch cheeses, some of which are over 600 years old! And of course, I will share with you plenty of useful tips to make your time in the city as interesting and enjoyable as possible.
Logistical Details
- Cheese tasting is included in the price. Entrance tickets to the house-museum on water (€5/person), as well as food and drinks at cafes (optional), are paid separately.
- Amsterdam's courtyards are open to city guests only on weekdays from 8am to 6pm.
- Be sure to bring an umbrella or raincoat, as the weather in Amsterdam can be very changeable.
- Additional participant supplement - €15/person.
