About this experience
The curtains are not drawn, there are more bicycles than people, houses dance. The Chinatown is just one street, and Central Station is on the outskirts. Museums for every taste and mood: from Rembrandt's paintings to museums of funerals and sex... God lives on the roof, and the intelligentsia in secret courtyards. How and why?! I will help you unravel the capital of oddities and contradictions.
What to expect
The juxtaposition of the incongruous
Let's start our walk from the main train station - the center and the outskirts of Amsterdam. Yes, simultaneously. Through the single street of Chinatown, we will reach the square where witches were executed. In the Red Light District, we will visit the city's oldest church. We will go to the floating flower market and through the entire antique-modern center - to the main office of the East India Company, built in parts. And centuries.
The walk is filled with a heap of legends, stories, and curious rumors from the past and present life of Amsterdam without boring dates and dry facts. We will discuss:
- why the color of the famous Red Light District is red and where so many disputes arise around its location;
- who is the inadvertent (or deliberate?) culprit of the Dutch Golden Age;
- why the dancing houses tilt in different directions but will never fall down;
- where the Beguines order hid and what lonely intelligent women did in it.
After the tour, we can relax somewhere cozy. You will understand what you have seen and heard, and I will answer all your questions.
