What to Expect

Old Sailor Bar in Kromboomslot
Pleasant and quiet waterfronts of Kromboomslot do not boast coffee shops or red lights, and tour boats do not wander into the narrow canals. We will pass by the antique Montelbantorren fortress tower and cross small islands to reach the former dam of Hochte Cadaijk. And then we can stop at an old sailor bar with preserved 17th-century interior, where various types of genever (local gin) are poured up to the brim of the glass, following the Dutch tradition!

In the Footsteps of Peter the Great in Oostelijke Eilanden
We will explore the former shipyards of Oostelijke Eilanden where Peter the Great once studied shipbuilding. We will see the house where the emperor worked and visit the active Kromhout shipyards and one of the last Amsterdam windmill fortifications. At the foot of the windmill is a popular local brewery called Het IJ Brewery, where we can stop for a pint of beer if desired.

Birds and Parks of Plantagebuurt District
In the spacious avenues of the 19th-century Plantagebuurt district, the air feels much freer than in the tight city center. Here, we can spot exotic birds: herons, parrots that live in Amsterdam year-round, and even brightly pink flamingos. Here is also the oldest city park, a botanical garden, and one of the most beautiful streets in Amsterdam. During a leisurely walk, you will hear stories about the buildings and bridges along the Amstel, learn why the houses here are tilted, and discover how people live in houseboats.
