About this experience
York is a typical England in miniature on one side, and an incredible collection of contrasts on the other. During the tour, you will get acquainted with the key places of the city from York Minster to secret alleys with pubs and antique shops. And I will help you immerse yourself in Yorkshire culture and become a true 'Yorkie' in just a few hours.
What to Expect
Through the Streets of York: All of Britain in Miniature
Our route will start with the city's main symbol - the York Minster Cathedral, which accounts for half of all stained glass windows in England. You will admire the cathedral's stunning architectural details and then set off to explore the city, where traces have been left by Romans, Vikings, Normans, and Anglo-Saxons. I will show you the key places without which York would not be York:
- We will talk about the city's patron saint near St. William's College.
- We will examine the towers of the medieval city wall and find out why Yorkshire residents love King Richard III.
- You will see the house of the legendary Guy Fawkes and learn about the urban tradition associated with him.
- You will explore Stonegate Street with its ancient signs, shops, legends, and ghosts.
- You will venture onto York's secret alleys and learn why fans of Harry Potter adore Shambles.
- You will uncover the secret of KitKat bars at the iconic chocolate shop.
- You will stroll along Fossgate Street with trendy cafes, small pubs, and York street food.
- You will exit through a hidden door to the Merchant Adventurers' Hall and hear its history.
- You will also see the famous Clifford Tower, the Church of All Saints, and King's Manor.
Feel Like a True Yorkie!
Our walk will not be without the history of York, but I will focus on its lively modernity. We will find the smallest pub, reveal the secret of the blue bicycle, explore old shops, and discuss interesting everyday nuances. You will learn what the British eat for breakfast, where they travel, and what homes they live in. Get ready to visit locals' favorite bars, peek into secret courtyards, try the best cupcake in York, and discover the legends behind the doors of completely ordinary buildings.
