About this experience
Corfu is not just about beaches, warm sea, and fantastic nature. Learn about the spread of Christianity on the island, explore its major religious sites, and appreciate the skill of ancient craftsmen.
What to Expect
Orthodox Corfu
We will visit wonderful churches in the town of Corfu and in the south of the island. The tour program includes:
- Church of Saint Spyridon - an ancient Orthodox church in the center of Corfu. You will have the opportunity to venerate the undecayed relics of the island's patron saint and receive a blessing from the local clergy.
- Church of Saint John the Baptist - built in the 15th century during the Venetian rule, it will be remembered for the kind priest Father Athanasios, the miraculous icon of Saint Fanourios, and the multitude of relic particles of saints.
- Cathedral of Saint Theodora - I will share the story of the righteous Byzantine empress Theodora's life and show you where her relics rest.
- Kassopitra Monastery - a place where people come to seek help from the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos for healing eye diseases. You will learn why this is a tradition and the legend associated with it.
- Monastery of Saint Efimia - you will see an iconostasis considered the oldest on the entire island and enjoy the idyllic surrounding views.
- Monastery of Saint Paraskevi - a women's monastery in the south of the island. I will reveal the history of the heavenly intercessor and introduce you to the caring abbess Nymfadira, who gladly converses with every parishioner.
