About this experience
Embark on a journey through the salty waters of the Persian Gulf on kayaks! The mangroves here have adapted to harsh conditions and created a unique ecosystem. Our guide will tell you about these interesting plants and lead you through tropical thickets to Purple Island. If we're lucky, we'll admire the pink flamingos wintering among the mangroves.
What to Expect
Transfer to the camp. Travel from Doha to the fishermen's village of Al Thakira in a comfortable bus. The journey takes 40 minutes. Along the way, we pass by 2 stadiums built for the FIFA World Cup - Lusail and Al Bayt.
Guided briefing. You will find yourself in a traditional Bedouin camp with all amenities, where our guide will provide instructions on kayaking. The kayak accommodates two passengers and is completely safe even for beginners, as the water depth in the mangroves does not exceed 1-1.5 meters.
Kayaking through mangroves. From November to February, Qatar offers ideal weather conditions for kayaking. With experienced guides, you will paddle through the clear waters of channels amidst mangrove forests. Admire tropical plants and exotic wildlife. If luck is on our side, we'll see the pink flamingos wintering here.
Purple Island - our main destination. Previously, natural dye of burgundy color was produced here from mollusks, as it is Qatar's national color. Having enjoyed the beauty of Qatari nature and tired from paddling, we return to the Bedouin camp, where you can optionally have lunch or dinner.
Organizational Details

- If fewer than 5 people join, you will need to get to the starting point by taxi on your own. A group of 5 or more will be provided with a transfer from Lusail metro station.
- Be sure to bring spare clothes and headgear
Please note: after booking, you need to contact the guide to confirm the start time of the tour on a specific day, as it is "tied" to the water level and can vary significantly. Usually, the tour starts between 5 and 9 am.
