About this experience
In Turkey, there are hundreds of ancient cities, but Perge is considered a classic among archaeological finds. I will guide you through the ruins of the once wealthy city, tell you about legends and emperors. You will envision yourself as residents of Perge, strolling in togas through bazaars and squares. And then we will visit the museum, inspect and discuss interesting artifacts.
What to expect
Ancient Perge
This city has seen many eras. It witnessed Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines in its time. You will walk along the main street, see one of the baths and the bazaar, where trade flourished. We will recall the legends of ancient Troy. We will talk about the patroness of Perge and the Greco-Roman pantheon of gods in general. I will also tell you about Emperor Septimius Severus: whom he was married to and what his sons - Mark Aurelius and Geta - did not share.
Antalya Archaeological Museum
Most of the collection consists of artifacts discovered during the excavations of Perge. You will explore the hall of the Greco-Roman era, magnificent statues, mosaics, and sarcophagi. You will get acquainted with the vanished Byzantine Empire. You will also find a sarcophagus of a dog and unravel the mysteries of some burials.
If you are with children
This will be wonderful because I have prepared many tasks for them. In the ancient city, they will find traces of 3 periods of its development, assemble a mosaic of times, and solve artifact puzzles. At the archaeological museum, they will solve riddles, correlate objects from different periods, and answer the main question: what do the ancient city and the museum have in common.
Antalya Gastronomy
At the end of the tour, if desired, you will taste the cuisine of the Antalya province. It is especially vividly represented in establishments near Perge. Traditionally, this includes meat patties on lavash, grilled vegetables, piyaz salad, ayran, and baklava with tea.
