About this experience
Through acquaintance with the Doge's Palace, you can learn many amazing stories about Venice itself - it is not for nothing that this is one of the main attractions of the city. Come explore what was happening here in different times!
Doge's Palace
The main building of Venice served primarily as the residence of the doges of the Republic. The palace housed the Great Council and the Senate, the Supreme Court operated here, and the Secret Police conducted its affairs. The ground floor also housed the offices of lawyers, a chancellery, the offices of censors, and the maritime bureau. The balcony on top served as a kind of festive platform from which the doge appeared to the people. The city's guests would dock their boats right at the palace itself from the Piazzetta side, thus finding themselves at the ruler's feet.
Together with St. Mark's Basilica and other buildings, the Doge's Palace forms the main architectural ensemble of the city. And it is definitely worth a visit!
