About this experience
You will see the main attractions of Padua: the largest square in Europe, the anatomical theatre, the university, the legendary 'doorless cafe', the basilica of St. Anthony, and the old castle. I will tell you how Galileo, Giotto, Shakespeare, Petrarch, and Copernicus are connected to the city and lead you along the paths of famous Paduans. You will observe the daily life of locals and explore the best of Padua, without the usual clichés and boring descriptions.
What to Expect
The Highlights of Padua
You will visit the Palazzo del Bo - the historic building of the University of Padua, founded in 1222. I will tell you why it is called the 'Ox Palace', show you the oldest anatomical theatre in the world, and the wooden lectern from which Galileo lectured. We will walk along the main pedestrian street Roma (yes, this road also leads to Rome!) and end up at Prato della Valle - one of the largest squares in Europe. You will learn the history of its name and examine the 78 statues located here, and I will tell you who they are dedicated to.
Through the Centuries of Padua
In the basilica of St. Anthony, one of the most revered Catholic saints in Italy, you will see the place where his relics are kept. Walking along Santo Street, we will return to the city center and stroll through the market squares. You will learn about the city's history and see how its appearance has changed from the Middle Ages to the present day. I will also show you the houses where Petrarch and Dante lived. Crossing the picturesque bridges from the Roman Empire era, you will see the astronomical observatory and the old castle. I will talk about the fates of local rulers, the Jewish ghetto, and the complex relationship between Padua and Venice. In the finale, you will visit the oldest cafe in the city and taste coffee prepared according to a secret recipe.
