About this experience
You will see the iconic places of Bologna that characterize the city the best: Piazza Maggiore, Neptune Fountain, Bologna University and much more. I will tell you where the works of a young Michelangelo are hidden, what frightened Bolognese children in the 16th century, and what connects Bologna to Moscow. And in the end, you will understand what sets Bologna apart from other Italian cities and makes it absolutely unique.
What to expect
Bologna through the centuries
You will get acquainted with such famous city landmarks as:
- Basilica of San Petronio - one of the largest churches in Europe. I will tell you why the facade of the main cathedral of the city is only half decorated.
- Piazza Maggiore - the central square, hiding many city legends and historical facts that I will definitely share with you.
- Neptune Fountain - I will tell you why it caused a sensation in the 16th century and is still one of the main symbols of the city.
- Two Towers, embodying the peak of Bologna's development in the Middle Ages.
- Archiginnasio - the oldest building of Bologna University, inside which a unique anatomy theatre room has been preserved.
- Complex of Santo Stefano - you will learn how it is connected to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
- Basilica of San Domenico - I will reveal the mystery of which monastic order's founder is buried here.
- Church of Santa Maria della Vita - you will see the tallest dome in all of Bologna.
And you will also stroll through narrow alleys with food shops and the main student street via Zamboni. I will show you how, without leaving the boundaries of the historical center, you can momentarily find yourself in Venice. Finally, you will learn where the funicular was heading, for decades one of the city's symbols, and what reminds of its existence now.
