Charming Tbilisi, sacred Mtskheta and cave city Uplistsikhe
About this experience
This is not just an optimal 1-day itinerary - it's a grand journey through the country's epochs. You will get acquainted with its modern and former capitals, Tbilisi and Mtskheta. Explore the caves of the ancient city of Uplistsikhe and, optionally, visit the Stalin Museum in Gori. My stories about pagan Georgia, the emergence of Christianity, and the significance of faith will help you understand the path of Sakartvelo.
What to expect
A journey through the ages of Tbilisi
An auto-pedestrian tour through Georgia's heart city will cover its key places associated with the ancient and modern history and culture of the country.
- Starting with the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity - a monumental church built in 2004. You will hear about what was here before, the construction of the cathedral, and its significance in Georgia's spiritual life.
- Next on the agenda is the Narikala Fortress - you will reach it by car or cable car (your choice). You will learn about the role of the citadel while enjoying the best panoramic view of Tbilisi. A bonus exclusive to this tour is the visit to the upper church near Narikala.
- Descending, you will enter the Sulfur Baths district, preserving the legend of Tbilisi's foundation. We will talk about the city's origins and which famous people visited the baths. Nearby, you will find a real waterfall in the city center!
Mtskheta - ancient capital and its shrines
From Tbilisi, we will head north to the city known as the "altar" and the soul of Georgia. In Mtskheta, you will immerse yourself in the history of Christianity - the events that shaped our country’s path. You will see:
- Jvari Monastery near Mtskheta, perched on a hill where the Aragvi and Kura rivers merge. You will admire the landscapes that inspired Lermontov to write the poem "Mtsyri." And of course, you will enter the monastery: feel its ancient energy and learn about the revered Saint Nino, who established Georgia's first cross.
- Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - before the opening of the Holy Trinity in Tbilisi, this cathedral was the main one. Today Svetitskhoveli remains a place where valuable relics of the Christian world are kept. I will tell you more about this, as well as the monastery's name and the events remembered by its walls.
Stalin Museum and Uplistsikhe - nearby and deep past
If you wish, we will visit Gori, Stalin's hometown, to see the memorial museum dedicated to him. This is a large complex where you will see the leader's personal belongings, furniture, gifts, preserved sculptures, and the famous armored train.
In Uplistsikhe, you will travel back 40 centuries. This cave city is one of Georgia's oldest settlements, helping you understand its pre-Christian history. In Uplistsikhe, you will learn about the country's pagan past, with the remaining cult structures illustrating the stories. You will explore the "residential" rooms, walk through tunnels, and discover remnants of an ancient theater. Besides, here opens a picturesque panorama of the Kura River valley.
Itinerary
Tbilisi - Jvari Monastery - Gori - Uplistsikhe - Mtskheta (Svetitskhoveli Monastery) - wine tasting - dinner
We will return from Uplistsikhe to Mtskheta not by the highway, but through villages, allowing you to immerse in local color.
🍷 🍲 In the final part of the tour, after visiting Svetitskhoveli, you will enjoy wine tasting at a 100-year-old wine store and dinner at a unique restaurant serving national cuisine, resembling Robin Hood's village.

Highly recommend Livana and Alexandra. 8 hours flew by in one breath! We learned a lot of new things and were impressed for a long time. The most important thing in any journey is to find understanding with the guide and be on the same wavelength. We were very lucky. Wishing you prosperity!
