From Tbilisi to Mtskheta, Gori and Uplistsikhe
About this experience
You will learn the most interesting facts about the history of Georgia, from ancient times to the Soviet period, and feel the atmosphere of two amazing places: Gori and Uplistsikhe. I will show you Goris Tsikhe, the ancient city fortress of the 14th century, and tell you about the most famous resident of the city of Gori - Joseph Stalin. Then you will be transported back three thousand years, and find yourself in Uplistsikhe - an amazing city carved into the rock. I will gladly reveal its secrets, legends, and quirky history.
What to expect
Mtskheta - the first capital of Georgia
You will hear its history and visit the main attraction - the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where the chiton of Christ is kept.
Jvari Monastery
You will find yourself where Georgian Orthodoxy originated. From here, there is an amazing view of the confluence of two rivers, Mtkvari and Aragvi. You will admire the blend of waters resembling a watercolor mixed with a brush.
Soviet nostalgia in Gori
An hour's drive from Tbilisi - and you are in Gori, one of the oldest places in Georgia, first mentioned in the distant 7th century. The name of the city is related to the rocky formation "goraki" located in the center of Gori. It is on this formation that the remains of the ancient fortress Goris Tsikhe are located, about which I will tell you many interesting facts. You will visit the main attraction of Gori - Stalin's house-museum, built in the form of a marble sarcophagus. And also see one of the few remaining sculptures of the "father of nations" in the world, towering right in front of the museum.
Uplistsikhe - a walk among volcanic rocks
Next, you will head to the ancient city-fortress of Uplistsikhe, located on the banks of the Kura River just 12 km from Gori. I will tell you the difficult history of the famous cave city, associated with the struggle between Christianity and paganism. You will learn about the persecution of its inhabitants and priests, the destruction of the main buildings, and the emergence of Christian churches in place of pagan temples. Today Uplistsikhe is partially restored and has the status of a museum. You will be able to wander through its mysterious volcanic caves, nooks, and rocky outcrops.

In reality, we were provided with a transfer with a local driver, I can't call it a tour. On our day, the group didn't gather, there were only three of us, so the...

The tour was enjoyable, especially Mtskheta, Svetitskhoveli and Uplistsikhe (the views from the top are very beautiful). The tour of the Stalin Museum in Gori was chaotic, but we were not very interested in this topic, so it's okay. The guide Lana was very nice, attentive to the whole group, both Ru...
