About this experience
Did you know that in the 20th century Tokyo was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake and air raids during World War II? But one area of the city survived. That's where we will take a stroll! You will walk along small narrow streets, visit two ancient temples, and explore a cemetery. You will also visit the house-museum of the local sculptor Asakura.
What to Expect
During 3 hours of exploration you will:
- Walk around the area of the ancient Buddhist temple Tennodji, dedicated to the god of wealth and prosperity. You will see a 300-year-old statue of Buddha and feel the serenity of this place.
- Visit one of the largest cemeteries in Tokyo, where the last shogun is buried. I will tell you about local funeral rites and traditions. And also reveal what the Japanese do in cemeteries at night.
- Enter the house-museum of the famous Japanese sculptor Asakura. Appreciate his works, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese house, and admire the picturesque inner garden.
- Stroll along a shopping street where you can try street food and traditional Japanese sweets, visit small local shops, and buy incredibly cute trinkets with kittens.
- Explore the Shinto shrine Nezu, walk along the path under many red gates, and find yourself in the sanctuary of the deity of abundance and worldly success.
