About this experience
We invite you on a journey to the heart of Montenegro - the city of Cetinje - the royal capital of the country, founded in 1482. During the tour, you will get acquainted with the history of Montenegro, its establishment among European states, learn interesting facts about the past and present. And also, after a tasting, you will be able to get an idea of the country's gastronomic specialties.
Program
- Visit to the Cetinje Monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin. For over 500 years, the monastery has been the residence of the Montenegrin-Primorsky Metropolis. The monastery has been and remains the spiritual pillar of Montenegro, its founding principle. Relics: the right hand of John the Baptist, part of the Holy Cross Tree, relics of St. Peter of Cetinje the Wonderworker.
- For an additional fee, those interested can visit the treasury of the monastery, which houses a priceless collection: the first books printed in Cyrillic, gifts from the Romanovs, vestments of bishops, precious icons, utensils, etc. You can also visit the National Museum, where the Filerma Icon of the Virgin Mary, painted by Apostle Luke, is located, or other museums.
- Free time to explore the city. Visit to Lovćen National Park. Here, at an altitude of 1660 m, is the mausoleum of Metropolitan Peter II Petrović-Njegoš - the last metropolitan who ruled Montenegro as a prince and lord. From the observation platform, there is a stunning view of the whole of Montenegro.
- During the trip, you will have the opportunity to try and purchase local delicacies: honey, rakija, cheese, and pršut (dried and smoked meat) from local production.
- In addition, time is allocated for lunch at the ethno-restaurant.
Organizational Details
- Lunch at the restaurant and entrance tickets to museums are paid separately
- The cost of the tour includes only guide services. Additionally, you can order the accompaniment of a car, minivan, minibus, or bus. The cost of transportation is negotiated separately and depends on the starting point of the tour.
- For groups of 5 people or more, a tourist tax of Cetinje city is additionally charged (1 euro/person. The cost may be subject to adjustment by local authorities).
