About this experience
Get ready for a unique excursion to off-the-beaten-path locations that will introduce you to the history of Budva and allow you to enjoy the nature of the surrounding areas.
Itinerary
We will visit two fortresses near Budva - Mogren and Kosmac.
Fortress Mogren, built in 1860 by the Austro-Hungarians, served to protect the western borders of the city of Budva. It later participated in both World Wars, and during the Second World War, it was used as a weapons depot. Previously surrounded by dense forest, frequent fires have severely damaged the forest. Right below Mogren Fortress are two beaches of the same name; it's possible to walk down there if you have proper footwear.
En route to Mogren Fortress, there will be stunning panoramic photo spots that I will show you.
Fortress Kosmac also dates back to the Austro-Hungarian period of history. Built around 1850 to monitor the Montenegrin borders, it housed infantry and artillery weapons during World War I. Fortress Kosmac is not only an architectural monument but also a part of history. Unfortunately, it is currently in a very poor half-ruined state, and Montenegrin authorities have not yet started its restoration. Whether this restoration will happen is unknown. Therefore, I recommend seeing this interesting place before it's too late! From the fortress, you have a panoramic view of the entire Budva.
