About this experience
Budapest combines seemingly incongruous elements: palaces and ruins, splendor and sorrow, grandeur and coziness. I will tell you about its rise and fall, help you feel its pulse, and love its contrasts. You will see the soaring Parliament building, the grand St. Stephen's Basilica, Freedom Square, the 'Shoes on the Danube Bank' memorial, and much more!
What to Expect
Parliament and Danube Embankment
We will start our introduction to Budapest at the Parliament building. You will uncover the history of its construction and decipher the architectural features. Then, descend to the Danube and enjoy magnificent city panoramas. Additionally, I will show you the poignant Holocaust Victims Memorial 'Shoes on the Danube Bank' and narrate the dramatic fate of Hungarian Jews during World War II.
St. Stephen's Basilica and Freedom Square
On Freedom Square, you will appreciate its adorned palaces and hear about the tragedy associated with one of them. You will also observe two monuments dedicated to the same event, but reflecting entirely different views on it. The tour will conclude at St. Stephen's Basilica, where we will discuss its incredible history of construction and the first Christian king of Hungary.
