About this experience
If France is the culinary capital of the world, then Lyon is the culinary capital of France. To confirm this, we will visit the old stalls at the Le Halles Paul Bocuse market and taste the delicious Lyonnaise cheeses, sausages, wines, and pastries. And in between gastronomic discoveries, we will talk about the history of traditional bouchons and the legendary chefs of Lyon.
What to expect
Tasting Lyon
Immersing yourself in the restaurant world of Lyon is worth starting with the gastronomic market of Paul Bocuse - that's where we'll head. I will tell you about the peculiarities of local cuisine and its highlights. Special attention will be paid to two components of Lyon's culinary fame: the legendary bouchons and Paul Bocuse, who turned the city into France's gastronomic center. You will learn how the atmospheric bouchons appeared, who the "mothers" were, what was served in the first Lyonnaise restaurants, and where the chef, who revived and popularized French cuisine worldwide, sourced his products.
Tasting local delicacies
At the Le Halles Paul Bocuse market, you will find many delicious discoveries: no wonder fresh farm products from all over France are purchased here. In a stall of a friend and supplier of Bocuse, you will taste a cheese plate with different types of Lyonnaise cheese, including the refined Tom de Savoie cheese with a glass of excellent white wine.
The gastronomic immersion will continue at the charcuterie stall: here you will try different types of Lyonnaise sausages, bouchon salads, sausages, and pâtés in a brioche bun - all accompanied by excellent full-bodied red wine.
For dessert, we will visit a pastry shop where you will find 12 wonderful little pastries with different flavors. After the tastings, we will stroll through the entire market so you can once again look at the farm delicacies - but this time with the eyes of a connoisseur.
