About this experience
I invite you to take a walk through one of the most creative and modern cities in Spain. You will see the ambitious Alhóndiga building, resembling a dragon's cave, visit the famous Guggenheim Museum, take a funicular ride, and get lost in the maze of ancient streets. I will tell you the legends that fill Biscay, and also reveal the secret of where to taste the best 'pinchos' and enjoy crimson sunsets.
What to expect
Medieval soul of Bilbao
The tour will start in Casco Viejo - the Old Town, where you will feel like a true Basque, leisurely strolling through the antique streets. Almost 800 years above the historic center rises the Cathedral of Saint James, done in classic Gothic style. You will climb to the main city temple and learn interesting details of its history. Next, you will see the theater and the old railway station, thanks to which ore was transported in the past, and, if desired, taste local snacks 'pinchos' and wine 'Txakoli' on the monumental square in the center of the Old Town. I will tell you legends and unusual facts about the Basques and the gastronomy of northern Spain.
Symbols of the modern city
Crossing the Nervión River, you will feel the 'capital' spirit of Bilbao, embodied in the ultra-modern Alhóndiga project, created by the wild imagination of the famous Philippe Starck. You will be surprised that none of the 43 columns of the unusual building resemble each other. Arriving at the main square of Moyua, from which the streets diverge like a labyrinth, we will follow one of them to Dona Casilda Park, and then, along the river with a wonderful view of the city, we will come straight to the entrance of the Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art. I will tell you how art has influenced the city and why there is a frightening statue of a huge spider near the museum. Finally, we will walk across the hanging glass bridge - a masterpiece by the Valencian architect Calatrava. After the tour, I will recommend where to taste the most delicious Basque delicacies and see the most breathtaking sunsets.
