About this experience
This tour is for inquisitive, curious people. For those who find the usual 'look right, look left' insufficient. Even if you have been to Barcelona more than once, believe me, I will find something to amaze you. Barcelona is a city bustling with life, full of festivities... Do you want to know what is hidden behind this bright cover?
What to expect
- Our introduction to the 'behind-the-scenes' Barcelona will begin at Catalonia Square. You will find out, for example, how the Catalans deceived General Franco by placing the Catalan sanctuary right in the heart of the city. I will reveal many other secrets to you on this square, where every inch seems trodden by tourists' feet.
- Next, we will walk along Passeig de Gracia. You will learn about the 'undercurrents' that hindered the naive utopian plan of Barcelona’s main 'expander' (the author of the Eixample). You will also learn who the 'Indians' were and the role they played in the transformation of Barcelona. And why medieval gargoyles suddenly appeared on the facades of Barcelona's 20th-century buildings. You will discover whose money funded the construction of Casa Milà and whom Senor Mila called 'my predecessor'.
- Sagrada Familia Cathedral is a continuous puzzle. I will help you see what is 'hidden' (even though it is in plain sight) on the facade of Antonio Gaudi's cathedral.
- At Spain Square, I will unveil the secret of another Catalan symbol and evidence of 'Catalan stubbornness'.
- Arc de Triomf - What secrets could possibly be here? Oh no, something curious you will definitely hear.
- We will conclude our exploration of the 'back side' of Barcelona in its old part. And here discoveries await you at every step. You will find out why an ancient Barcelona was said to be worth rabbits and roosters to a Chinese emperor. I will show you where a bandit, one of the characters from 'Don Quixote', hid when visiting Barcelona. And much, much more.
