About this experience
Bismarck's Roads is the second of three tours that we conduct in small groups every day, continuing your acquaintance with Berlin. In 2 hours, you will see the iconic sights of the city and learn how it survived revolution, Nazism, war, wall division and joyous reunification in one century.
What to expect
The loudest stories and key places of Berlin
Berlin became famous for the dramatic events of the 20th century, when revolution led to Nazism, defeat in the war led to the division by the Berlin Wall, and reunification restored its status as the capital of Germany. The traces of those times will lead us along Bismarck's Roads.
We will start near Checkpoint Charlie, which was the main checkpoint between East and West Berlin. Today, there are crowds of tourists, famous landmarks, and even a piece of tropical beach here. How? I will tell you on the tour.
What's next:
- Trabant Museum, the legendary car of the GDR. We will talk about the history of these small colorful cars that still delight travelers today. After the tour, you can sit inside or even take a ride on them. Meanwhile, the Berlin Wall is waiting for us.
- Topography of Terror: here, our path will lead along the surviving fragment of the Berlin Wall. You will touch it and take photos. Explore the Gestapo basements turned into an exhibition, and the building of the Ministry of Aviation of the Third Reich, an example of Nazi architecture.
- Sony Center will show you the splendor of modern architecture in Berlin. You will walk along the 'Stars' Road' of the Berlin Film Festival and admire the famous beautiful dome. And we will also show you where to enjoy a cup of coffee or freshly brewed beer.
- Ebertstrasse Street will lead us along the boundaries of the government quarter of the Third Reich, where Hitler's Reich Chancellery and Goebbels' villa were located. You will visit the memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and enjoy the beautiful Tiergarten park.
- Brandenburg Gate, the main symbol of the city, and the neighboring bustling Paris Square with its free and cheerful atmosphere.
- Reichstag: Berlin's 'brand' holds many mysteries and secrets that you will uncover. You will also learn that it is not an ancient building at all; it was built in almost the 20th century by Otto von Bismarck, the hero of our route. He once stood here, cast in bronze. And here our walk will end.
Instructions for Berlin
Our tours will not let you get bored; we won't overwhelm you with unknown names and dates. And we are happy to answer questions and give useful advice - for example, where to go in Berlin in the evening.
This walk is the second in our series, a continuation of the overview tour 'Friedrich's Roads', so it is convenient to book them together. After 'Bismarck,' we invite you to the third stroll - 'Wilhelm's Roads.' It will acquaint you with the center of West Berlin. It starts 50 minutes after the end of 'Bismarck.'
