About this experience
‘Along Friedrich's Path’ is the first of three tours that we conduct in small groups every day. This is the beginning of your acquaintance with Berlin. In 2 hours, you will uncover the secrets of the great city, get to know its symbols - from the TV tower to Gendarmenmarkt, trace Berlin's path from a Slavic village to the German capital, and receive useful tips from a local resident.
What to Expect
Landmarks and Paradoxes of Old Berlin
This city is amazing: it turns out that the medieval streets were built in the GDR, and the old Royal Palace is a modern building. And even the magnificent Cathedral, from the steps of which our journey will begin, will turn out to be not quite what it seems at first glance. And what's next?
- Museum Island with majestic buildings in the style of Ancient Rome's forum. You will see the largest granite bowl in the world, learn how to get into Berlin's museums without queuing, and peek into the windows of Frau Merkel, who has been living here since GDR times.
- Saint Nicholas Quarter, or Nikolaiviertel, where we will immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of a medieval city with narrow streets and tiled roofs. But not for long, as ahead are the Royal Palace and the Palace Bridge with their surprises.
- The grand street Unter den Linden, or 'boulevard under the lime trees'. The main street of the Prussian capital will lead us to the hero of the route - Frederick the Great. Why does the king turn away from modern people? This and many other mysteries await you on the walk. And also the German Historical Museum, the Old Guardhouse, the Crown Prince's Palace and the Opera - architectural masterpieces of Berlin from Frederick's time.
- Bebelplatz: we will stop at the 'cathedral of all religions' and talk about the secrets of this square. Where the Nazis burned books, today stands one of Berlin's most unusual memorials.
- Gendarmenmarkt Square, one of the most beautiful in the capital. You will appreciate its symmetry and harmony, see the Concert Hall, the French and German cathedrals. And we will finish near the 'Chocolate House', where you can relax after the walk.
