About this experience
On a journey along the Balaton coast, you will get acquainted with cozy towns rich in healing springs. I will show you the homes of writers, bishop's residences and places with fantastic panoramas. I will tell you about the heritage of one of Hungary's oldest abbeys and the noble Feshetich family. And in the only thermal lake in Europe, you will be able to join a tradition dating back to ancient Romans.
What to Expect
Beauty and Elegance of Balatonfüred
In the northeast part of the lake, you will visit a balneological resort famous for its healing mineral springs. Take a stroll along the beautiful Tagore Promenade along the Balaton waterfront. Enjoy the panoramas of the 'Hungarian Sea' and meet swans with wild ducks. Learn about the history of the aristocratic resort and its architectural monuments. See the house-museum of writer Móra Jókai, the Round Church, and the former summer residence of Bishop Vaszary. And at the Kossuth Square, you can taste healing water directly from the spring.
Abbey in Romantic Tihany
Move to the peninsula just south of Balatonfüred. Here you will discover a beautiful place rich in history, fairytale architecture, souvenir shops, cafes, and restaurants. If you wish, visit the doll museum. The main attraction here is the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Andrew, founded in the distant year of 1046. In its crypt lies the only preserved royal tomb from 1060. Admire the magnificent gilded altars. From the square near the church, enjoy the views of Balaton and the peninsula landscapes.
Magnificent Festetics
The journey continues to Keszthely - the oldest town on the coast. Explore its gem - the palace-park ensemble built in the late 18th century in neobaroque style. Stroll through the complex territory and well-kept park with fountains, learning about the history of one of Hungary's largest palaces and the Feshetich family. I will also tell you about the unique book collection housed within the palace walls.
Europe's Only Thermal Lake
The wonderful end of the day will be a visit to Lake Hévíz, just 6 km from Keszthely in the cozy and green town of the same name. The lake's surface is covered with beautiful Indian water lilies. You can continue the ancient tradition of thermal baths - the healing power of the lake has been used since Roman times. And I will tell you the history of the spa founded in the late 18th century by Count Festetics.
