About this experience
With the first rays of the sun - as well as at sunset - the architectural masterpieces of Samarkand shimmer with magical colors, which we will capture in photos. You will enjoy the beauty of the deserted city without crowds of tourists and scorching daytime heat. I will show you the most atmospheric places and reveal the history of ancient Samarkand. And in the end, we will try the authentic local pilaf in a traditional teahouse.
What to Expect
- We will start our journey at Shahi-Zinda Necropolis, where narrow streets are always filled with pilgrims, except in the early morning or late evening. This complex is one of the most important monuments of eastern architecture and a "laboratory" of different decorative elements: majolica, carved mosaics, terracotta.
- Climbing to Hazrat-Khyzr Mosque, we will admire the view of Bibi-Khanum Mosque and the ancient Siab Bazaar, where we will later head. You will be inspired by the views of one of the most magnificent buildings of Tamerlane, about whom I will also tell you.
- The heart of Samarkand - Registan Square - will color our immersion in antiquity. We will visit all three madrasas - Sherdor, Tillya-Kori, Ulugbek. And by climbing a secret path through a labyrinth of steps to one of the minarets, we will see the city at our feet.
- Afterwards, we will go to a real teahouse, without queues, and try the authentic Samarkand pilaf. I will reveal all the secrets of this dish and we will relax, drinking green tea with sweets.
- Timur's Burial Site, shrouded in legends and mysteries, will be our final point. I will tell you all about the empire of the great Amir Timur, about military campaigns, and how Samarkand turned into one of the most beautiful cities in Asia.
