About this experience
This itinerary combines spiritual sanctuaries and natural beauties of Armenia. You will explore the pagan symbolism of Garni Temple, the legends of the Christian monastery Geghard, 'hear' the Symphony of Stones, marvel at the views from the cable car in the ski resort Tsaghkadzor, and then taste delicious trout by the pristine Lake Sevan.
What to Expect
From Paganism to Christianity
You will not only visit picturesque places in Armenia but also explore its ancient cultural layers. First, we will visit the Garni Temple, the only Greco-Hellenistic architectural monument in the country. Learn about the history of the temple's destruction and restoration, stroll through its picturesque surrounding garden, see the ancient bathhouse, ruins of the eponymous castle, and the rocks with the poetic name Symphony of Stones.
The next discovery is the ancient Christian Geghard Monastery carved into the rock and included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Hear the legends about the Spear of Destiny discovered here, immerse yourself in the era when Geghard was known as Ayrivank, and admire the monastery framed by massive mountain ridges.
Mountainside of Tsaghkadzor
You will then find yourself in the center of Armenia's winter tourism, which deserves attention all year round. I will tell you about the championships and other events traditionally held in Tsaghkadzor, and then you can take a ride on the famous cable car offering breathtaking mountain panoramas, and optionally on ATVs. If you get hungry, I will recommend a good restaurant and provide time for lunch.
Sacred Lake Sevan
You will encounter the legendary Sevan—embodiment of Armenia's spiritual and natural facets. Feel the calming atmosphere of the largest lake in the Caucasus, and on its shore, explore the ancient Sevanavank Monastery, about the history of which I will surely tell.
