About this experience
I will show you the Sun God temple - the only pagan monastery in Armenia, guide you to the Gegard Monastery carved in a cave, and reveal 'the pearl of Armenia' - the picturesque Caucasian lake. In 8 hours accompanied by history, you will witness some of the most impressive landmarks of my country.
What to Expect
Ancient Garni
Why was the temple dedicated to the pagan Sun God? Why was it destroyed in the Middle Ages? You will learn about the monastery's past, climb to the top of the Sevan peninsula, where you will have views of the giant mountain ranges, and breathe in the fresh air of the Armenian mountains.
Gegardavank in the river gorge
The monastery that originates in a cave. The monastery built in the 4th century. The monastery that saved hundreds of Armenians. All this is about the cave Gegard, or Gegardavank. You will examine the temple, find out where the spear tip that pierced Christ was kept, and appreciate the monumentality of ancient Armenian architecture.
'Gegam Sea' and Medieval Sevanavank
Lake Sevan, or the 'Pearl of Armenia' - the largest freshwater lake in the Caucasus at an altitude of about 1900 meters. You will stroll along the lake, marvel at the water the color of the sky, and visit the Sevanavank temple located on the shore. The monastery will amaze you with its collection of khachkars and intricate patterns on them, which contrast with the asceticism of Sevanavank.
