About this experience
Sri Lanka is not just about beaches, palm trees, surfers, and the ocean. We invite you to travel deep into the country and discover what was happening here many centuries ago. You will admire Buddhist sanctuaries: monasteries, stupas, and dagobas. Understand how they differ from each other, how they were built, and what their symbolic meaning is.
What to expect
Buddhist stupas and temples
We will visit the main attractions of Anuradhapura: the sacred Bodhi tree, the monastery complex of Abhayagiri, and the Mirisaveti stupa. And also the city's 'postcards' - dagobas. These are Buddhist religious structures designed to store relics. You will see the Thuparama, Ruwanwelisaya with stone statues of Buddha, and Jetavanarama - one of the tallest brick structures of the ancient world.
Interesting stories
Founded in the 5th century BC by an Indian prince, Anuradhapura will impress you with its rich history and preserved artifacts from different times. You will learn how it developed over centuries, what helped it become one of the centers of political life in South Asia, in what capacity it is mentioned in Hindu myths and the Ramayana. We will reveal the features of the local unique architecture and help you appreciate it.
