We will try to make it so that in one day you come closer to solving the mysterious, ancient, and alluring Sri Lanka. You will climb to a high rocky plateau where gardens, buildings, and ancient pools of Sigiriya have hidden from time and civilization. You will see Buddha seated on the Dambulla temple. And in the city of Kandy, you will explore the island's main sanctuary, the Temple of the Tooth Buddha.
What to expect
Sigiriya: the eighth wonder of the world
From Hikkaduwa, we will head to the ancient Sigiriya, the last capital of the Kandy kingdom, included in the UNESCO heritage list. Travelers from all over the world are drawn to the 170-meter rock, which rises in the middle of a green plain: on its top, there is a city with the remains of a royal palace. We will climb to the plateau, delving into the history of Sigiriya along the way. We will walk through palace gardens with pools and fountains that have been functioning without electricity since the 12th century and are considered an engineering wonder.
Photo stop at the Golden Temple
On the way to Kandy, we will stop in Dambulla at the famous Golden Temple: it is hard to pass by the city's postcard, a huge golden statue of Buddha. We will take memorable photos and talk about the religious traditions of the people of Sri Lanka.
Temple of the Tooth Buddha: a sacred place in Ceylon
In Kandy, we will visit the 18th-century temple where the island's main relic is kept—the Tooth of Buddha. Not only the cultural significance of the temple is interesting, but also its traditional Kandyan architecture. In addition to the Buddha's tooth kept in 7 caskets, we will examine other relics—manuscript library, Buddha statues made of emerald, mountain crystal, jade, and gold. And outside, we will admire the man-made lake, near which the temple stands.
Organizational details
- The excursion takes place in a comfortable air-conditioned car. Departure from your hotel in Hikkaduwa, Ambalangoda, Bentota, Kalutara, or Wadduwa. After the tour, we will take you back.
- The price includes: all entrance tickets for two according to the program, transfers, guidance from a Russian-speaking guide from our team. Lunch and other personal expenses are paid separately.
- For the excursion, you need to bring a document of check-out from the hotel or a vaccination certificate.
- The guide and driver have completed full vaccination against coronavirus. There are sanitizer and medical masks in the car.
