About this experience
Essaouira is a city of fishermen, warm winds, and white houses. Unique and free-spirited, it has always inspired artists, poets, and musicians. You will stroll along the picturesque promenade, the fortress, the 'royal' quarters, and the Old Medina, learning the most interesting facts about local traditions, culture, and architecture.
What to Expect
Colorful Essaouira
On the central Royal Square, you will see street musicians, local artists, and travelers casually sipping delicious Arab coffee in cozy cafes. As you stroll through the Old Medina, admire the white houses with blue windows - a blend of Portuguese, French, and Berber architecture. I will reveal the ancient name of Essaouira and tell you about the role Jews played in its commercial development.
Ancient Fortress and Fishing Port
One of the city's 'postcards' is the mighty ancient fortress. Learn about its construction traditions and its connection to the famous French military engineer Marquis de Vauban. Additionally, visit the fishing port, hear about the specifics of maritime trade in Morocco, and see the distant Mogador Island, where paint was once produced from mollusks. Finally, visit the colorful fish market, where fishermen sell their catch directly from boats, stroll along the coast, and enjoy the sun and golden sand.
