About this experience
In ancient times, Agora was the economic, political, and cultural center of Athens. I will help you bring images from the past to life and imagine how judicial processes and voting took place here, what was traded in the square, and who controlled the process of fair trade. I will show you the famous Temple of Hephaestus and tell you about Plato, Socrates, Pericles, and other great Hellenes.
What to Expect
Main and Hidden Places of Agora
We will start our walk at the monument of Theseus: you will hear myths about the creation of the city and learn who its first founder was. Then you will walk along Adrianou Street, imbued with the spirit of different eras, and enjoy the view of the Acropolis. I will also show you the zero kilometer of ancient Athens, the world's first search engine, the "lego" temple, and the entrance to the "VIP area".
Temple of Hephaestus and Panafinea Street
The best-preserved attraction of Agora is the Temple of Hephaestus. You will admire its ancient columns and pediments, appreciate the grandeur of Greek architecture, and enjoy the panorama of the hills of Athens. Additionally, you will stroll along one of the oldest streets in the city - Panafinea Street. I will tell you about the events that took place on it and how it changed over time.
Agora Museum
You will visit the Stoa of Attalos - the Agora Museum in the building of a restored covered gallery with two rows of Doric columns. Its collection will reveal details of the life of the citizens of ancient Athens. You will learn about its social and political aspects, ancient Greek justice, the birth of democracy, and the holidays and everyday life of Athenians.
