What to Expect
Overview of the city's oldest monuments
Near the majestic ruins of the Library of Hadrian, we will talk about the oldest place for contemplation and spiritual relaxation, built by the ancient Roman emperor. You will see the world's first meteorological station and an interesting architectural structure—the Tower of the Winds. You will learn about the history of the ancient open-air theater Theatre of Dionysus, dating back to the 5th century BC and still functioning as a creative platform. You will also explore the Temple of Hephaestus, where we will discuss ancient Greek cults.
Multicentennial atmosphere of Athenian corners
To fully experience the special Hellenic spirit, you will stroll through Athens' oldest neighborhood on the slope of the Acropolis—Plaka, which has seen many years and centuries of Greek life pass through it. You will walk through the atmospheric Anafiotika below the walls of the Acropolis, where I will tell you about this tiny and very picturesque district of the city. Also on the itinerary—Roman Agora—a forum that appeared during the Roman rule. At the iconic mound of Aeropagus, you will learn about the world's first trial by jury and enjoy panoramic views of Athens. And, you will visit the ancient center of secular and public life—Ancient Agora.
Bars, cafes, and taverns
On the most touristic square in Athens—Monastiraki—you will immerse yourself in a whirlwind of souvenir shops and lively traditional taverns. I will also show you the oldest bar and distillery in Athens—Brettos, where Greek brandies and liqueurs have been produced since 1909, and the establishment's design has made it one of the most photographed spots in the capital. And a little later, I will take you to a colorful spot loved exclusively by locals—Psyri, where you will find rows of cozy taverns and authentic cafeterias, initiating a conversation about local mentality and habits.
