About this experience
Azerbaijan is one of the few places on earth where you can still observe elements of the oldest surviving religion of Zoroastrianism. You will learn about the development of the cult of fire, visit a temple frequented by Zoroastrian pilgrims, see the extraordinary burning mountain, and visit an open-air ethnographic complex.
What to Expect
Thus Spoke Zarathustra
You will visit a unique place - the Ateshgah temple: here I will tell you about the history of Zoroastrianism, its spread, mysteries, and legends, about the life of the Zoroastrian community and about famous individuals of the past and present who adhere to this religion. And then you will see the unique Yanar Dag mountain, at the foot of which natural fire burns all year round.
In the Footsteps of the Silk Road
The next stop will be the Azerbaijan State Historical and Ethnographic Reserve - the Gala Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Complex, where you will see mounds, tombs, houses, water storage facilities, ruins of an ancient castle, a mosque, baths, and other structures dating back from the 3rd millennium BC to the 20th century. Here, I will tell you how this place is connected to the Silk Road, about the lives of wealthy merchants and simple peasants on the Apsheron peninsula in the Middle Ages. You will learn about the history of the reserve and the museum complex. Additionally, you will get acquainted with Azerbaijani customs, especially the technology of weaving woolen carpets and making traditional flatbreads called 'qutab'.
