Azerbaijan's Islamic Architecture
With me, you will visit significant landmarks of Baku and Absheron architecture, learn about the country's religious history, and how Muslim culture has influenced life in Azerbaijan. I will help you understand why mosques look the way they do and what function they serve. Together, we will explore the grand buildings of the Shah Mosque and Bibi-Heybat, go inside to investigate the mosaics, and discuss their history reflecting global processes. A mosque is a symbol of the country, and I will show you how it can deeply comprehend Azerbaijani culture.
Religious Values of Absheron
After visiting Baku, we will tour the Absheron Peninsula and see ancient Muslim shrines, significant symbols of Azerbaijan's religious history. We will also visit small ancient villages proud to preserve important Muslim relics – the footprint of Saint Ali and the mausoleum of the great healer Mir Movsum Aga. You will visit Hasan's feast, magnificent mausoleums and burial sites and learn about their creation history. And I will tell you about specific Azerbaijani religious rituals and beliefs.
