About this experience
25 centuries ago Sicily was already an important center of winemaking in the Mediterranean. The healers considered wine to be medicinal, and the drink itself was dramatically different from what it is today. Over time, much has changed in winemaking, but Sicily's love for wine has remained constant! At the winery, you will learn to distinguish between different types of wine and taste several varieties with delicious snacks.
What to Expect
At the winery, you will see all the stages that grapes go through before turning into wine. You will walk through the vineyards and descend into the wine cellar, where you will taste local wines, olives, cheeses, sausages, bread with olive oil, and sfincione pizza.
I will tell you:
- Which Sicilian family has been in the winemaking business for four generations
- What varieties of grapes exist and how to understand them
- How the grapes grown in Palermo differ from those that grew on Mount Etna
- Why wine was diluted with water in ancient times
- The health benefits of wine for the body
- And much more!
