About this experience
Wine is the favorite drink of Florentines. They prefer it even to water! Together we will walk through all four quarters of the center, step by step immersing ourselves in the wine history of the city. I will show you the most unusual, ancient, and young taverns. I will help you find an interesting 'wine detail' in the Baptistery and introduce you to the famous wine windows for sale.
What to expect
Florentines say that 'good wine improves the blood' and drink it almost from childhood. In the past, it was poured into bottles for passers-by through special openings made in the stone walls of noble palaces. And this is just one of the many local wine stories. On the tour you will learn:
- Who obliged Florentines to dilute wine with water and who did not like this rule
- What 'crazy' wine event has been held in Florence for many centuries in a row
- Who was allowed to sell wine in the past and what strict rules these lucky ones had to follow
- How things were with wine during the 17th-century plague epidemic
- Who was the most eccentric Florentine tavern keeper, and who officially described the formula of the famous Chianti wine
To feel like Florentines of past centuries, we will taste the divine nectar in the old-fashioned way!
