About this experience
This custom route will take you to the north of Madeira, which often remains a blank spot on the island's map for travelers. With our help, you will get an insider's look at the unique way of life of local residents and explore lesser-known but incredibly picturesque corners: from winding trails along the ocean to Santana's thatched roofs.
What to expect
The heart-capturing North of Madeira
First, we will head to the town of Sao Vicente - here you will notice how the northern coast contrasts with the southern side of Madeira. We will observe the mighty Atlantic waves, and then explore the less populated areas of the island. In the small village of Ponta Delgada, we will visit the most unusual church in Madeira, discuss its history and legends, which will set even the skeptic in a mystical mood.
Colorful Santana: life from the inside
The charming houses of Santana with their triangular thatched roofs will surely stay in your heart. After a walk through the town, you can descend by cable car to the protected area and observe how locals cultivate the land. We will also visit a water mill with a 300-year history and take a walk along an exciting route along the cliff on a path created by local fishermen.
Understanding Madeira's traditions and contrasts
With our help, you will explore little-known but incredibly beautiful corners of the island, where tourists rarely venture. We will help you understand how the northern part of the island significantly differs from the southern coast. We will talk about local customs and legends, share secrets of national dishes, and visit a couple of places where you can taste Madeira's cuisine. But we won't reveal all the cards - we'll leave room for pleasant surprises!
