About this experience
Many think that to experience the color of the East in Uzbekistan, one must visit Bukhara and Samarkand, unjustly overlooking the capital - the beautiful Tashkent. However, the charm of Central Asia is particularly vivid here! In the Old City, you will explore the Muslim architecture of medieval mosques and madrasas, learn about secular and religious education, and hear about the local relic - the ancient manuscript of the Quran. In Tamerlane Square, I will talk about the legendary founder of the Timurid Empire, on the spacious squares and in the modern district - about the current aspirations and values of the people. And in the bustling bazaar, you will immerse yourself in a world of dried fruits, sweets, and unparalleled watermelons.
What to Expect
Islamic architecture and the spiritual center of Tashkent
Most of the time you will spend in the Old City - it is on the Khast Imam Square where you will get acquainted with the Muslim architecture and architectural schools of Uzbekistan. Near the Mosques of Khazrati Imam and Tilla-Sheikh, beautiful minarets, and the mausoleum of Abu-Bakr Kaffal Shashi, I will talk about woodcarving art, Eastern ornaments, and mosaic decor. Additionally, you will learn about the valuable 7th-century manuscript - Othman's Quran, preserved in the Muyi Muborak Madrasa. You will also see the largest medieval madrasa in the historic center - Kukeldash Madrasa, where we will discuss the traditions of religious education in Tashkent and its coexistence with secular education.
Historical sites and the modern part of the city
Passing through Navoi Street, you will find yourself in another Tashkent, where modern high-rise buildings contrast with old 19th-century houses. Here, I will tell you how the city developed during the important period of joining the Turkestan General-Governorate. While walking in Amir Timur Square, you will hear about the legendary military leader who founded the great Timurid Empire. The Memorial Complex of the "Victims of Repression" and the monument "Courage" will allow you to touch upon the sad pages of the 20th century. And on Independence Square with well-groomed parks, fountains, and the Alley of Glory, we will talk about the current aspirations, values, and desires of Uzbekistan.
Flavors and aromas of Tashkent
Any Uzbek city is inconceivable without authentic markets - it is here that you can fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere and color of traditional life. For this, I will take you to the largest market in Tashkent - Chorsu, where you will discover various types of dried fruits, nuts, sweets, spices, and of course, watermelons. Of course, tastings are a must! Also, in the middle of the program, upon your request, we will take a lunch break in a place with authentic national cuisine where locals eat. If needed, I will orient you in the menu and tell you what is definitely worth trying (such as "lagman" and "shurpa" soups, our gastronomic symbol - pilaf, various flatbreads and puff pastries like "samsa", manty and kebabs, and much more!)
I will gladly share useful tips with you, recommend great places for relaxation and further exploration of the city, and strive to make you feel light, free, and comfortable here!
