About this experience
Experience Ebru art in our gallery in the old center of Istanbul - it's like touching the culture of the Ottoman Empire. Meditative brushstrokes on the water surface, echoing calls to prayer from the nearby mosque, the rich aroma of Turkish coffee in the studio. And also - an act of creativity through which you will explore not only a new form of art, but also yourself.
What to Expect
Technique and Key Details
Ebru, or 'marbling', is a method of creating unique swirls reminiscent of natural marble patterns. You will apply patterns on the surface of a viscous water solution using a brush and special needles - here, only imagination and the desire to create something beautiful matter, as the master will assist with technique. To take your artwork home, the next step will be transferring the design onto a sheet of paper or fabric. After complete drying, usually by the next day, you can pick up your work from the studio.
Aesthetics, Slowness, Atmosphere
Immerse yourself in the colors of the upcoming hours even before reaching the art gallery. We are located in Sultanahmet - the old part of Istanbul surrounded by mosques, the waters of the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn, and authentic alleys. During the workshop, you will be treated to Turkish coffee and receive more information about Ebru and materials before starting to create (under the careful supervision of the master). If you get so absorbed in the process that you want to continue, our instructors will gladly support remote sessions (via Zoom). For guests, this is not just an introduction to a new art form, but also a meditation, the result of which is a painting with mesmerizing patterns.
