About this experience
The British capital harmoniously combines modern trends and conservative values, and the London City is a vivid example of this. Nowhere else will you find so many eras and styles on a square mile: I will teach you how not to get lost in this diversity. You will uncover the 2000-year history of London's architecture development, as well as learn who lives and works in the global financial center.
What to expect
Walking through the ages
We will visit the Victorian market Leadenhall, which was founded on the site of the Roman forum: I will tell the history of trading London, explain the significance of markets in the past and present. You will be impressed by the ruins of the Greyfriars church, preserved after World War II, and enjoy the beauty of St. Paul's Cathedral. Learn how Londoners defended it from German bombings and how the city was rebuilt. Then we will stroll through the Postman's Park and narrow medieval lanes, where 17th-century coffeehouses used to be. And we will end the tour at the Lloyd's insurance skyscraper, which is called the building 'inside out'.
Stylistic contrasts and everyday life
I will talk about the architecture of modern London, as well as about Gothic, English Baroque, Classicism, Postmodernism, and ancient Roman buildings - all of them have become part of the city's architectural history, and in the City, you will see examples of each style.
We will make a special emphasis on modern London. About 8,000 people live in the City, and 300,000 come to work daily - you will understand who these people are and what they do, and as a result, you will feel the rhythm of the English capital.
