About this experience
The City is a unique city in the center of London: for 200 years it has remained an independent and unparalleled entity, located on just one square mile. Here, offices of the world's largest companies coexist with ancient churches. During the tour, you will learn about the major historical stages of the City's development and understand how it transformed from the possession of ancient Romans into a global financial center.
What to Expect
City: must see
The tour begins at the oldest London bridge, offering a view of the entire City. Walking along the riverside past the old fish market and custom house, we will head deeper into the City. We will then admire the famous skyscraper 'The Gherkin' and the 'inside-out' Lloyd's of London building. You will visit the ancient Leadenhall Market and see the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange, and the Lord Mayor's residence. The program also includes the ceremonial Guildhall, the only residential complex Barbican in the City, and Smithfield, one of the largest meat markets in the world. The tour will conclude with a magnificent view of St. Paul's Cathedral from a secret rooftop!
London Chronicles
I will tell the history of the city's founding and its major stages of development, starting from the 1st century: from the conquest of Britain by the ancient Romans to the later Norman conquest. We will present London's life in the Middle Ages and discuss the aftermath of the Great Fire of London in 1666, which nearly destroyed medieval City. You will understand what the city was like in the 19th century and learn about its expansion and connection to the suburbs through the development of railways. We will touch on the Second World War, which changed the face of the historical part, and discuss the construction of skyscrapers in our era.
