About this experience
The Prince Islands are treasures in the crown of Istanbul's gems. These quiet lands, immersed in greenery, carefully preserve their treasures away from prying eyes. As a resident of Buyukada Island, deeply in love with it, I will show you the most beautiful corners of Turkey: reveal secret spots, share local legends, and facts from history.
What to Expect
The islands have a rich past: for centuries, they were home to the intellectual elite exiled here. Despite the affluent residents, the islands are very democratic and resemble not Rublevka, but more like a serene suburb.
We will stroll through winding streets, admire the charming architecture of wooden mansions from the Ottoman era, visit a cozy museum and a Byzantine monastery, enjoy magnificent views of the archipelago from hills, and interact with locals. Along the way, I will share local legends and true events. For instance, how the islands almost became the starting point of a new chapter in human history.
You will see:
- Beltur Cultural Center in a historic 19th-century mansion
- Trotsky's House
- Splendid Hotel, preserving the luxury and charm of the 'Belle Epoque'
- Buyukada Kitapcisi Art Library
- The monumental Al Palas mansion of a famous astronomer
- Europe's largest wooden building founded in 1903
- Piko craft wonder store, where artisans from the four islands exhibit their works
- Monastery of St. George
- Princes' Islands Museum
