About this experience
Get ready for a full-day immersive journey. You will visit the largest coffee plantation in the USA, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the archipelago, and a lagoon with turtles. Hear legends of the ancient people of the island and the history of Captain Cook's visit. See the ruins of a Russian fort. And of course, admire the 'alien-like' views of the local Grand Canyon and Kalalau Valley.
What to Expect
- En route to the canyon, we will stop at the largest coffee plantation in the USA, where you will taste different varieties of local coffee and explore the coffee maze.
- Next, you will visit the ruins of the former Russian fort 'Elizaveta' (Russian Fort) and learn about its history of fortification.
- You will also see the monument to Captain Cook, installed at the site of his first landing in the historic center of the city.
- We will stop at viewing platforms offering magnificent canyon landscapes.
- Additionally, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the 'cosmic' Kalalau Valley (Napali coast).
- On the way back after a lunch stop in Waimea town, you will visit the roaring Spouting Horn sea fountain, a lagoon with sea turtles, and Poipu Beach.
- Lastly, we will head to one of the most beautiful Hawaiian waterfalls, Wailua.
Kauai Legends and Histories
You will hear the legend of the Menehune - small people who lived in Hawaii before the first Polynesians. I will also tell you about a huge lizard (dragon) that got stuck in a lava cave on the south shore and still resides there. We will discuss Captain Cook's visit to Kauai and what happened to him a year later. You will also hear about the Russian fort in Waimea town and the first Russian circumnavigation expedition.
Organizational Details
- Included in the price: transfer in a Honda Odyssey minivan, park admission, guided tour, water, and beverages.
- Additional expenses: $20 for lunch.
- I will pick you up from hotels in Lihue, Poipu (Koloa), Kapaa, Wailua. If you are staying in Princeville or Hanalei areas, I will meet you near the Walmart store in Lihue.
- If you wish to relax on the beach, bring swimwear, towels, sunscreen, a hat, and a light jacket.
