About this experience
Serbia has ancient traditions of winemaking, but local wines are not well-known as production volumes are modest and all are reserved for the wealthy guests. At the wineries, in the warm company of hosts, you will taste white, rosé, red wines, as well as the famous bermet served on the Titanic. Cheers! Or as the Serbs say, živeli!
What to Expect
History of Local Viniculture
You will learn about the ancient history of winemaking on Serbian land, dating back to the beginning of our era and the first ancient Roman vineyards. We will talk about how, despite significant obstacles, the tradition of growing grapevines has been preserved. About the main winemaking regions of Serbia and the place of viticulture in the lives of their inhabitants.
Features of Serbian Wines
Serbia is located at the same latitude as world-famous French and Italian wine regions. But the local climate and soil have their own characteristics, thanks to which famous Riesling, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Cabernet, and Merlot acquire unique notes. You will also discover authentic varieties such as Smederevka – a type of local Riesling; Kadar and Prokupac – rich red wines. We will not overlook Tamjanika – a fragrant pleasant wine on the border between dry and semi-dry.
Famed Bermet
Serbs prefer dry or semi-dry wines. There is one dessert wine that was even served at royal courts and was honored to be chosen for the exquisite meal on the Titanic. At the wineries, you will taste the famous Sremsko-Karlovački Bermet – sweet but not cloying and very aromatic, it leaves no one indifferent, even those who appreciate only dry wines.
Wine estates in Sremski Karlovci
You will visit one of the winemaking regions of Serbia, at the foothills of the Fruska Gora, where half of the residents have their wine cellars. In two cozy private estates, you will try white, rosé, red wines, and the famous dessert wine Bermet. And you will spend time in the warm company of people who warmly welcome guests and enjoy sharing their life passion.
