About this experience

You will visit three beautiful Scuole Grandi, compare their history and interior decoration, and admire the cycles of paintings by the greatest Venetian artists of different eras.
What to Expect
The Role of Scuole in Venetian Life
I will tell you about the place that Scuole held in the city's public life and what activities they engaged in, as even for Venetian nobles it was a special honor to belong to the so-called 'Scuole Grandi'. The members of Scuole led a luxurious lifestyle and competed with each other, which is why over time the buildings of Scuole were adorned by the best architects, artists, and sculptors of Venice, competing in beauty and wealth.
See and Compare the Most Beautiful Scuole
In Venice, there are seven charitable Scuole - we will visit three of them: the Carmini Scuola, the San Giovanni Evangelista Scuola, and the San Rocco Scuola. Each of the Scuole can be confidently called a treasure trove of Renaissance masterpieces - the palaces' interiors were worked on by Tiepolo, Tintoretto, and other masters of the Venetian Renaissance. On the tour, you will learn about the monastic orders and organizations that founded the Scuole, admire exquisite frescoes, marble sculptures, and unique architectural details.
Pictorial Masterpieces of the Scuola of San Rocco
We will, of course, pay special attention to the largest of the Scuole Grandi, the beautiful Scuola of San Rocco, to which the great Tintoretto dedicated 20 years of his life. You will not only examine the 69 paintings of the artist that became part of the interior decoration of the Scuola but also learn how the ingenious Tintoretto managed to obtain the right to paint the Scuola. You will also get acquainted with the legend of Saint Roch and understand why a dog is always depicted next to the saint.
