Vardzia, Khertvisi, Rabati and Borjomi: group bus tour
About this experience
During this journey, you will explore historical landmarks in southwestern Georgia, in the region of Samtskhe-Javakheti. You will visit the monumental rock-hewn city established by monks. Discover the history of the citadel guarding Georgia's main road. Immerse yourself in Georgian and Turkish heritage at Rabati Fortress. And get acquainted with the country's most famous balneological resort.
What to Expect
Vardzia: Carved into the rock, it amazes with its scale, as there are 600 houses in the mountain! You will explore rooms that used to house baths, libraries, churches, as well as the local treasury and remains of an ancient water supply system. And learn about the history of the cave monastery from the 12th-13th centuries.
Khertvisi Fortress: Adjacent to Vardzia, on a rocky hill lies one of the oldest and best-preserved fortresses of Georgian medieval times. The guide will tell you about the citadel that guarded the country's main road and its millennium-long history.
Rabati Fortress: Another medieval monument on the itinerary. In the town of Akhaltsikhe, you will learn about the Turkish and Georgian heritage of this historical complex. Visit churches and mosques, see Turkish baths and the tomb of the Turkish governor.
Borjomi Resort: Finally, you will head to the famous balneological and climatic resort. Take a stroll in the Borjomi Park, listen to the story of the benefits of the local mineral water, reach the spring and taste the real Borjomi water.
There will be a lunch break at a local establishment midway through the program.
