About this experience
I invite you to take a stroll through the non-touristy part of Amsterdam. My author's gourmet-museum walk will appeal to hedonists curious about history. This is a great way to learn a lot of new things about the city while indulging in small pleasures along the way.
What to Expect
Secret Corners of Amsterdam
Our key focus today will be the leisurely pace of a calm walk. Along the way, we'll take breaks to refresh, for example, enjoy coffee with the best traditional apple pie in town at one of the squares. In another spot, we'll have Dutch herring paired with Dutch oysters. Through hidden courtyards not easily found, we'll visit the studio of the most cutting-edge local designer, view and discuss his works. Afterwards, we'll descend onto a residential houseboat, see how life is arranged, and finally convince ourselves that real people live here.
From Bags to Tulips: Unusual Museums of the City
And of course, museum visits await us. First on the list is the world's largest handbag museum (women need no explanation of how magnificent that is), then the 18th-century mansion museum with luxurious interiors illustrating the lifestyles of Amsterdam's aristocrats at the time, and also an interactive mini-museum about the city's three main canals. Following that, we'll enter the cheese museum, where tasting is not just talked about but practiced. And lastly, we'll visit the tulip museum, where we'll recall the tulip mania of the 17th century.
Part of our journey together will pass through the boutique district in Amsterdam style, and if you're looking for unique shopping, we'll definitely visit all the shops you'll like. My skills as a stylist-shopper may come in handy here.
Logistical Details
Depending on our overall pace and your preferences, the walk can take from a few hours to a whole day. Write to me, and we'll discuss in advance what from the above will be of interest to you specifically, and what we can skip.
