What to expect
Beauty and history of Lake Skadar
Our goal is to explore the surroundings of the largest lake on the Balkan Peninsula. On the way, I will tell you about the role Lake Skadar played in Montenegro's history, how it expanded in size, and which rare animals can be found here. We will visit small and cozy fishing villages on the shore, explore the Lesendro fortress on an island, and visit the medieval Zabljak Crnojevica castle, perched on a high cliff. If we are lucky, we might even see pink pelicans that have made the marshy plains of Lake Skadar their home.
Boat trip on the "Balkan Amazon"
Our next stop will be Rijeka Crnojevica—formerly a bustling trading bazaar, now a small town on the banks of the winding river amidst the mountains. You will admire ancient stone bridges, stroll through colorful streets, and then embark on a boat trip on the incredibly picturesque Crnojevica River among blooming lilies, nesting cormorants, and herons. Afterwards, we will stop at Pavlova Strana meadow for a photo break and enjoy one of the most famous postcard views of Montenegro from a lookout point.
Lunch in the village of Karuc
The authentic fishing village of Karuc will welcome you with its ancient stone houses and delightful landscapes of the remote corners of Lake Skadar. After enjoying the surroundings, you can taste freshly caught sturgeon, carp, or trout in a local homey restaurant.
